Phillip Island Practice “Straight from the drivers”

Red Bull Holden Racing Team

Jamie Whincup #88

We are very disappointed with the results as we threw everything into the second practice session to get into the top 10 but we couldn’t do it.  We rolled out onto the track without having made any gains from the test day, “said Jamie.

Today though, we have genuinely come a long way; from P23 in the first practice to P11 in the second practice.  This obviously doesn’t change that fact that it’s disappointing having to start the race weekend so far back,”

“Unfortunately, we will now be in the first part of qualifying tomorrow which not only means using another set of tyres but we have set ourselves up for a tough day tomorrow.”

Shane van Gisbergen #97

“For us right now, it’s about finding a balance on this track at Phillip Island as it has a lot of high-speed corners and only two low speeds corners,” said Shane.

“We probably went a little too far for the high-speed corners despite doing well in sectors 1 and 3 but lacked in the middle sector with all the slow speed twisty stuff. Obviously, we need to find a balance,”

“There is a massive gap to P1 so no doubt we will be working extra hard tonight trying to find the areas that need improvement.”

“We didn’t expect that result going into that session, even though we were P11 in P1 we put some green tyres on it to see where we were at and luckily we did because it allowed us to know where we were at in that one (practice 3),” said Todd.

“Yeah they (Triple Eight Racing) gave us the ingredients to do a good job, good to be able to work in closely with those guys, to be in a two-way relationship where they are faster than us and we learn and when we are faster then them they can too, it’s a really cool thing we have got going there,”

“I think to be one of the top Holdens and in the top-10 is really special for a small team, Matt Stone Racing.”

David Reynolds #9

“My Car didn’t feel that bad, we ran a different batch allocation then we’d use this weekend, but I’m not too sure,” said Reynolds.

“Around here the wind can change so from session to session it can be vastly different, so that could probably help us tomorrow.”

Nick Percat #8

“I think we have improved our Philip Island package on the basis that we’re much closer to Triple Eight and Erebus than we have been in the past here. We’re not trying to chase the Mustangs; we’re focused on beating the other Holden teams that we’ve worked hard to chase down,” said Nick.

“The balance of the 7-Eleven Supercar is decent, but we need something that is going to give us a little bit more overall grip. We’ll look into the data more overnight and see what we can find for tomorrow.”
