De Pasquale Converts in Challenging Conditions

Challenging conditions today for Race 21 of the Championship has seen Holden’s Anton De Pasquale secure his second ever podium finishing third in today’s 24 lap feature.

After qualifying on the second row the grid in fourth the Penrite Racing driver was able to make the move early on the more experienced Mark Winterbottom and convert the team’s car speed to finish top Holden.

“It’s awesome good to get the second one out of the way. It was a pretty intense race trying to keep up with these guys but they were long gone, I tried to throw it away a couple of times but it was good fun, good to get another one under the belt,” said De Pasquale.

“Yeah, it’s really hard you can drive flat out the whole time and then my car was pretty easy to drive just a few little muck ups from my self but lucky enough the car was quick and that didn’t matter,

“Good fun and a credit to the guys and girls at Penrite Racing.”

Winterbottom who joined the #99 of de Pasquale on the starting line was able to maximise his earlier qualifying position of fastest Holden and equal his best finish with the IRWIN Racing outfit finishing fourth.

“It’s the closest (position) to the podium, just to give you a taste of it, but if you come into the weekend saying you can get fourth you’d take it,” explained Winterbottom.

“It’s an awesome result, qualifying was really good and put us in a good position. I had the man train out and was full driver there,

“You just need to get up the front, If you can get up the front you can race there. Even though you aren’t the quickest, you can make them work to get around you.

“I’m wrapped, I would have loved to get a trophy but we’ll come back tomorrow and try and get one.”

Shane van Gisbergen shook off car issues in practice to finish just outside the top-five in a special outing for the Red Bull Holden Racing Team and Triple Eight Race Engineering who completed their 500th Championship race.

Fellow Penrite Racing teammate David Reynolds enlisted a long strategy, choosing to go against the field and pitting with only 7 laps remaining, a decision that paid off with the #9 Commodore finishing in seventh up 5 spots from qualifying.

“All in all, it was a good result for the team; Anton finishing third and the fastest Holden was real progress and good for our team points,” commented Reynolds.

“Both cars are fast, we got a small win with the lap record, and with a similar setup tomorrow we could both race at the front and both be the fastest Holden’s.”

Brad Jones Racing Driver Nick Percat continued his run of top ten finishes moving up 11 positions throughout the race finishing in eighth the biggest mover and shaker of the day.

James Courtney of Mobil 1 Mega Racing another top-ten finisher for the roaring lion, rounding out the ten.

Tomorrow will see crews tackle another three-part Armor All Qualifying session before a 41-lap race kicking off at 1.40pm local time.
